The Abia State Police Command has dismissed as misleading a viral video alleging rising insecurity in the state, reaffirming that the security situation remains under control.
In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, said the claims do not reflect the reality on ground, noting that residents in Umuahia and other parts of the state continue their daily activities without fear.
The Command revealed significant gains in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and related crimes. From January to date, 13 cult-related cases have been investigated, resulting in the arrest and arraignment of 23 suspects currently in correctional custody. A total of 32 firearms were also recovered, while five additional cases remain under investigation.
Police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, recently arrested suspects linked to cult clashes at Isi Gate on March 13 and 18. In a separate operation, other suspects were apprehended along Orji River Street near Enugu Road in connection with a shooting incident. Authorities confirmed that all suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He also highlighted proactive strategies including stop-and-search operations, intensified patrols, and the deployment of specialized anti-cultism units.
The Command further announced the launch of the “Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices” across schools, aimed at tackling the menace at its roots. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
