Abuja on Edge as Leaked DSS Memo Warns of Planned Terror Attacks on Airport, Prison

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is currently on high alert following the emergence of a classified security memo warning of planned large-scale terrorist attacks on critical national infrastructure .

The purported document, believed to be from the Department of State Services (DSS), identifies strategic targets including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Kuje Correctional Centre .

Security sources confirmed that jihadist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have allegedly infiltrated cells into the capital to execute a series of coordinated assaults . A primary objective of the planned attacks is reportedly to free high-profile detained insurgents .

The alert has triggered an immediate and visible security response across the city. Joint military and police patrols have been intensified, with checkpoints erected at major entry points and strategic locations . Authorities have yet to officially authenticate the memo but have not denied the threat, opting instead for a massive show of force.

The situation has revived painful memories of the July 2022 Kuje prison break, where over 800 inmates, including dozens of ISWAP fighters, escaped after a coordinated assault .

While the government has reassured residents that proactive measures are in place, the leaked intelligence has caused significant unease among citizens, with many avoiding crowded areas . Security experts have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement .
