The immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, is currently taking part in the induction course for ambassadors and high commissioners-designate, holding at the Foreign Affairs Academy in Abuja .
Dr. Ikpeazu was recently nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Kingdom of Spain , a strategic diplomatic posting that recognises his experience in public administration, economic development, and governance.
The induction programme, which began on Monday, April 27, 2026, is designed to equip the nominees with the necessary skills in diplomatic protocols, international relations, economic diplomacy, and consular services. The training also covers Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities and bilateral trade objectives with European nations.
Ambassadors-designate and high commissioners from various missions are attending the week-long course, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Academy.
Dr. Ikpeazu, who served as Governor of Abia State from 2015 to 2023, is expected to proceed to Spain upon completion of the induction and final approval of his posting. His nomination has been widely welcomed by stakeholders from Abia State and the Southeast, who have expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Spain, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
