The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend and burying her secretly in Nkpor.
The suspect is currently in police custody after concerned members of the public provided credible information that led to his arrest. The case was further exposed after a video of the exhumation of the corpse in Nkpor trended on social media.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspect is under investigation for murder and secret burial. Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case and commenced detailed inquiries.
Okechukwu is among four suspects arrested in separate incidents across the state, which also include a child abuse case. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies.
The victim’s body has been exhumed, and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
