APC Governors Forum Splits as Uzodimma and Abiodun Lead Rival Factions in Power Tussle

A major crack has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum as Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, have reportedly emerged as leaders of rival factions, threatening the internal cohesion of the ruling party at a critical moment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The split, described by insiders as deep and potentially destabilising, reflects longstanding tensions over influence, power sharing, and strategic direction within the APC’s gubernatorial bloc — a body that plays a pivotal role in shaping the party’s national agenda and electoral calculations.

Sources within the Forum indicate that the two camps have been quietly mobilising support among their fellow governors, drawing battle lines over key issues including zoning arrangements, party leadership positions, and the overall structure of APC’s 2027 electoral strategy.

Governor Uzodimma’s faction is said to command strong backing from Southeast and South-South aligned governors, while Governor Abiodun’s bloc is reported to have consolidated significant support across the Southwest and North-Central zones.

Political analysts warn that the fracture within the Governors Forum could not have come at a worse time for the APC, as President Bola Tinubu’s administration seeks a united party machinery to prosecute its 2027 re-election campaign.

Senior party leaders and presidency officials are said to be deeply concerned about the emerging division and are reportedly working behind the scenes to broker reconciliation between the two factions before the rift widens further.

Both Governor Uzodimma and Governor Abiodun are yet to publicly address the reported split.
