Backlash Trails INEC Decision as Critics Slam Politicians Over ADC Crisis

Reactions have continued to trail the latest position of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the ongoing crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with critics strongly condemning the conduct of key political actors involved.

In a statement that has sparked widespread debate, a political commentator questioned how prominent figures—many of whom have held power for decades—found themselves entangled in what was described as a self-inflicted political crisis.

The critic expressed disbelief at the sequence of events leading up to the current situation, noting that several politicians allegedly moved from attempts to register a new platform to aligning with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), before eventually joining the ADC under controversial circumstances.

Describing the actions as “political inconsistency,” the statement accused the actors of lacking ideology, clear vision, or commitment to democratic principles. Instead, they were portrayed as individuals driven primarily by the pursuit of power.

“Jumping from one party to another without a defined belief system reflects a deeper problem in Nigeria’s political culture,” the statement read.

Analysts say the development highlights longstanding concerns about weak party structures and the absence of ideological grounding in Nigerian politics. They warn that such patterns could undermine public trust and complicate efforts to build credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy continues to generate mixed reactions, with calls for political accountability and reforms growing louder across the country.
