A potential disaster was averted in Lagos on Monday after an overturned oil tanker spilled diesel on Liverpool Bridge, outward Apapa, Tin Can Island.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly moved to the scene to contain the highly flammable spill.
Videos circulating on social media showed some individuals attempting to scoop the spilled diesel, raising fears of a possible explosion.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident, assuring the public that the situation was under control and warning residents against scooping the fuel or lighting any naked flame near the area.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the affected axis and use alternative routes while cleanup and safety operations continue.
