FCT Polls: ADC Tests Strength as Wike Mobilizes PDP for APC Victory

Abuja, Nigeria – Tomorrow’s Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections have become a high-stakes battleground, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) testing its political might against a formidable alliance orchestrated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike .

The ADC, boosted by opposition heavyweights Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, is positioning itself as the primary challenger to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s polls across the six area councils . Party leaders describe the election as a critical test of both INEC’s credibility and grassroots resistance to APC dominance .

However, Wike—despite remaining a PDP member—has aggressively mobilized for APC candidates, engineering the dramatic withdrawal of two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidates . Zadna Dantani (AMAC) and Julius Adamu (Bwari) both stepped down this week, endorsing their APC counterparts following the Minister’s intervention .

“We have a duty to support any candidate that supports President Tinubu to win,” Wike stated unapologetically . His strategy has effectively collapsed PDP campaigns in two key councils, though opposition parties insist voters—not political maneuvers—will decide the outcome .

With 1.68 million registered voters and 570 candidates contesting, the election serves as a litmus test for the newly signed Electoral Act 2026 and INEC’s preparedness for 2027 . Voting holds Saturday across Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali .
