A former governor from southern Nigeria is under investigation for his suspected involvement in an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Security sources report the ex-governor is accused of financing the planned coup, which led to the arrest of at least 16 military officers. The alleged plan, reportedly scheduled for October 25, also included plots to assassinate the President, Vice President, and other top government officials.
Investigators from the Defence Intelligence Agency are leading the probe and are reviewing the former governor’s recent contacts with the detained officers. If strong evidence is found, he will be summoned for interrogation.
The alleged coup plot created significant panic within the government, leading to the cancellation of the annual Independence Day military parade as a security precaution. The detained officers are currently being held without access to their families as the investigation continues.
