The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has thrown its full and unconditional weight behind the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in their nationwide protests, issuing a bold and urgent demand for the immediate rescue of all students abducted across Nigeria.
NANS, speaking with one united and defiant voice on behalf of millions of Nigerian students, declared that the continued abduction of schoolchildren across the country represents not only a devastating failure of government responsibility but a direct and unacceptable assault on Nigeria’s educational future and the fundamental rights of every child to learn in safety and without fear.
The student body described the wave of school abductions — the most recent of which rocked Oyo State — as a national emergency that demands nothing less than an immediate, decisive, and comprehensive government response at both the federal and state levels.
“Nigerian students are not statistics. They are not numbers in a report. They are human beings with dreams, families, and futures. Every day they remain in captivity is a day too long, and we will not be silent,” a NANS spokesperson declared passionately.
Joining the NLC and NUT on the streets, NANS members across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones are mobilising for coordinated protests designed to send an unmistakable message to the government that the Nigerian people — workers, teachers, and students alike — are united in their demand for action, accountability, and results.
The student union further called on the Federal Government to immediately deploy all available security resources toward the rescue of every abducted student, hold accountable all security officials who failed in their protective duties, and implement a comprehensive school safety framework across all states without further delay.
NANS equally urged the National Assembly to convene an emergency legislative session to address the deteriorating security situation around Nigerian schools, warning that continued inaction will embolden kidnappers and further devastate Nigeria’s already fragile educational system.
Education stakeholders, child rights advocates, and concerned Nigerians from all walks of life have rallied behind the NANS, NLC, and NUT protests — describing the nationwide demonstrations as a necessary and long overdue expression of collective outrage against the government’s perceived failure to protect school children.
As protests sweep across Nigeria, the pressure on the Tinubu administration to deliver concrete results on school safety and the rescue of abducted students has never been greater or more urgent.
