BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended two suspected drug traffickers who were allegedly found peddling illicit substances behind the Oredo Local Government Area Secretariat in Benin City, Edo State.
The suspects were nabbed during a targeted intelligence-led operation by NDLEA operatives deployed to clamp down on drug trafficking activities in and around government facilities in the state capital — an area that had reportedly drawn the attention of anti-narcotics officials in recent weeks.
Recovered from the suspects were quantities of suspected illicit drugs, which have been taken in for forensic analysis. Both individuals are currently in NDLEA custody and are being investigated for possible prosecution under Nigeria’s drug laws.
The NDLEA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking, warning that no location — including the vicinity of government buildings — would be permitted to serve as a haven for narcotics dealers.
