New INEC Chairman Vows to Uphold Election Integrity

Professor Joash Amupitan has officially assumed his role as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declaring the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process as “non-negotiable.”

Sworn in by President Bola Tinubu, Professor Amupitan addressed INEC staff in Abuja, pledging to deliver free, fair, and credible elections that truly reflect the will of the people. He emphasized that restoring voter confidence is a constitutional task critical to combating voter apathy.

“Credibility in our election is paramount,” Amupitan stated. “We must ensure that every voter feels confident that their vote will count.”

Outlining his priorities, the new Chairman promised to focus on staff welfare and internal collaboration, stressing that success depends on synergy among all departments. He also highlighted the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election as a pivotal test for the commission.

Describing his appointment as a divine calling, Amupitan expressed his commitment to leading INEC with accountability and inclusivity, urging unity to overcome the challenges ahead.
