(Port Harcourt, Rivers State) – A coalition of groups from Rivers State has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to a young naval officer to publicly apologise to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his conduct during a recent confrontation in Abuja.

The demand stems from a heated November 11th incident where soldiers, including the officer in question, blocked Minister Wike and his officials from accessing a disputed parcel of land. A viral video of the encounter showed a tense exchange of words between the minister and the military personnel.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt, the coalition described the officer’s language as “abusive and disrespectful” towards the former Rivers State Governor. They have threatened to mobilise a peaceful protest to the Naval Headquarters and the National Assembly in Abuja to demand the officer’s immediate dismissal if he fails to issue a public apology.

The planned Rivers coalition protest demand adds a new layer of regional tension to the ongoing dispute over land allocations and authority in the FCT. The coalition argues that the officer’s actions were an affront to the people of Rivers State, whom Wike formerly governed.

As of press time, there has been no public response from the Nigerian Navy or the officer involved regarding the ultimatum.
