ABUJA – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Nigerian government have unveiled a major new partnership: a $175 million programme designed to accelerate the country’s industrial development.
The significant financial package, announced jointly by both parties, is aimed at boosting Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and driving economic diversification. The initiative seeks to move the nation away from its traditional reliance on oil revenues by strengthening other core industries.
The programme will focus on several key areas, including enhancing productivity, promoting sustainable industrial practices, and fostering the creation of much-needed jobs. This aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic goals and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Officials from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and UNIDO stated that the funds will be channeled into critical sectors such as agro-processing, renewable energy, and small-to-medium enterprise (SME) development.
This partnership marks a substantial international commitment to supporting Nigeria’s industrial growth, with the potential to significantly impact the nation’s economic landscape in the coming years.
