Warring PDP Factions Unite in Message, Assure Nigerians Party ‘Will Not Fail’

ABUJA — The two major factions within the crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have presented a united front, assuring Nigerians that the party remains on course and will not disappoint its supporters.

The assurance came from both factional leaders, National Chairman Tanimu Turaki and embattled National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, in separate interviews after a peace meeting convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Friday.

The meeting was initiated by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to address the protracted leadership crisis and conflicting correspondences from both camps.

Turaki, who leads one faction of the National Working Committee (NWC), stated that the party would continue to function as Nigeria’s leading opposition, holding the government accountable. “We shall continue to remain on course by the special grace of God,” he said.

Senator Anyanwu, speaking for the faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Nigerians are actually looking up to PDP… We’re not going to disappoint them. Things will work out right.”

Both leaders commended INEC for providing a platform for dialogue, acknowledging that the commission’s intervention was crucial for the party’s stability ahead of upcoming elections.

While legal disputes over the party’s legitimate leadership remain before the Court of Appeal, the factions agreed to engage with INEC’s reconciliation efforts. The electoral body stated it would review the submissions and respond in due course.
