ABUJA, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has issued stern warnings of sanctions against officials responsible for unauthorized contract variations on the stalled 15-kilometer Pai-Gomani road project in Kwali Area Council.
During project inspections on Saturday, Wike expressed strong dissatisfaction with both the project’s pace and an “unauthorized variation” that nearly equaled the original contract value. “Those who did not do what they are supposed to do will have to be sanctioned because people believe that you can go ahead without certain approvals,” the minister declared.
Wike emphasized that the contract variations far exceeded his ministerial approval limits, requiring presidential, Bureau of Public Procurement, and Federal Executive Council approvals that were never sought. Despite this setback, he announced the award of a new 13-kilometer Gomani-Yangoji road contract to Zeberced Construction Company, expressing confidence in timely completion for President Tinubu’s third anniversary.
The minister also revealed plans for public-private partnerships to operate FCT bus terminals with uniformly painted vehicles to enhance security and combat “one chance” crimes.
