₦27 Million Debt Cancelled, as MOUAU University Radio Hits Airwaves

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has officially revived its campus radio station, Agri-Voice FM 106.9, following the successful cancellation of a ₦27 million debt tied to its initial radio contract.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, announced the milestone during a press conference marking her first 100 days in office. The station had been moribund for over four years.

Prof. Akanwa outlined several key benefits of the revived broadcast outfit, including skill development for students with a flair for communication and innovation. She also noted that the station is expected to become a reliable source of internally generated revenue (IGR) for the institution.

Additionally, the radio will serve as an educational medium to disseminate information on improved crop varieties, including Habanero pepper, sweet bell pepper, and Shombo F1 pepper. Farmers will also be educated on climate-smart agriculture and the rearing of disease-resistant animals.

The revived station, now on test transmission, was formerly known as Green 106.9 FM. The university community has welcomed the development as a major step forward for agricultural communication and student empowerment.
