The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has issued a stern warning to protesters against dragging his name into their demonstrations.
Obasa spoke on Wednesday in response to recent protests in parts of Lagos where some demonstrators allegedly mentioned his name in connection with grievances over governance and constituency matters.
“I have built my leadership on service, integrity, and respect for the people. Do not drag my name into any protest or grievance that I have no connection with,” Obasa said.
The Speaker urged protesters to channel their complaints through appropriate official channels rather than resorting to public demonstrations that risk being hijacked by hoodlums.
He also called on security agencies to identify and arrest anyone falsely using the names of public officials to incite unrest or tarnish reputations.
The Lagos State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, civil society groups have advised protesters to ensure their actions remain issue-based and not targeted at individuals without evidence.
Obasa’s warning comes ahead of planned rallies in the state over economic hardship and rising living costs.
