2027: Peter Obi Cannot Win Northern Votes, Says Ali Modu Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ali Modu Sheriff, has dismissed the chances of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi winning the 2027 presidential election, claiming the former Labour Party presidential candidate would struggle to secure support in Northern Nigeria.

CDA News Nigeria reports that Sheriff made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s security record, expressed confidence that the APC would retain power after the 2027 general election, and argued that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031.

Sheriff alleged that Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State left many Northerners dissatisfied, claiming this would affect his electoral prospects in the region. He further stated that supporters of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were opposed to any political alliance between Kwankwaso and Obi.

According to Sheriff, Northerners would not support Obi in the next presidential election despite the votes he secured in some Northern states during the 2023 election.

The comments represent the Sheriff’s personal political views. Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the latest remarks at the time of filing this report.
