Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the recent deadly attacks in Kwara State, describing the killings as a tragic reflection of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
In a statement on Thursday, Obi said he was “deeply saddened” by reports that gunmen attacked communities including Woro and Nuku, alleging a death toll of about 150 people.
“Every loss of innocent life is tragic, and these killings represent a major failure for us as a nation,” Obi stated. He extended his condolences to the affected families and the state government.
The former Anambra State governor warned that the persistent violence nationwide, now “worse than what occurs in some countries at war,” requires decisive action. He urged authorities to declare a comprehensive war on insecurity, deploy all necessary resources, and ensure perpetrators are brought to swift justice.
The massacre has sparked widespread condemnation, prompting increased security deployments to the affected areas. Officials have pledged to restore peace and prosecute those responsible for the attacks.
