Ex-Federal Lawmaker, Rep Sam Onuigbo Hails Appointment of Prof. Akanwa as First Female VC of MOUAU

A former Federal Lawmaker Rep Sam Onuigbo has extended warm congratulations to Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa following her historic appointment as the 7th and first female Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).

The lawmaker, who previously represented the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency and currently serves as the South-East representative at the North East Development Commission, described the appointment as a “meritorious” and “well-deserved” elevation.

In a congratulatory message released to the press, the former lawmaker praised Prof. Akanwa as a consummate academic whose years of well-rounded experience make her perfectly suited for the role. He noted that the news brought cheer to his family, the host community, and all lovers of education.

“The Governing Council of the University and the Selection Committee could not have made a better choice,” the statement read. “Her appointment comes at a juncture when MOUAU is on an upward spring towards academic excellence and agribusiness incubation.”

On behalf of his wife and children, the lawmaker expressed confidence in her innovative bent and looked forward to a mutually beneficial relationship that would place MOUAU at the “apogee of tertiary education in Nigeria.”

He concluded by wishing the distinguished professor a successful tenure.
