APC Chieftain , Anyaragbu Defends MOUAU Council’s Decision to Hold VC Interview in Abuja

An Abia State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Chinweuba Anyaragbu, has thrown his weight behind the Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), following widespread criticism over its decision to conduct interviews for the Vice Chancellor position in Abuja.

Speaking on Wednesday, Anyaragbu described the backlash as politically motivated and deliberately misleading. He insisted that the Council Chairman, Comrade Fidelis Edeh, acted within his statutory powers, noting that no law mandates that such interviews must be held within the university campus.

“Abuja is a neutral ground, free from local pressures, ethnic sentiments, and undue influence that could compromise the process,” Anyaragbu stated. He dismissed insinuations that the venue choice implied a lack of confidence in Abia State’s security apparatus, describing such interpretations as “exaggerated and mischievous.”

Anyaragbu called on stakeholders to allow the Governing Council to conduct its statutory duties without intimidation, stressing that the focus should remain on competence, transparency, and academic excellence. “Let the best candidate emerge. MOUAU deserves stability, not distractions driven by politics or personal interests,” he concluded.
