Police Disburse N20m to Families of Fallen Officers in Borno

The Borno State Police Command has disbursed a total of ₦20,137,770.34 to nine beneficiaries under the Group Life Insurance Scheme, providing financial relief to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty .

The cheque presentation ceremony, held in Maiduguri, brought together next-of-kin and family members of the deceased officers to receive funds aimed at supporting education, healthcare, and general welfare needs .

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Ibrahim Sumaila, represented Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Abdulmajid at the event and conveyed a message from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun .

DCP Sumaila emphasized that the welfare of serving officers and their families remains a priority for the Force, describing the payout as a demonstration of institutional commitment. “The Group Life Insurance Scheme is a testament to the IGP’s compassion, accountability, and exemplary leadership in honouring officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for national peace and security,” he stated .

He urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds prudently to ensure long-term stability for their households, noting that the scheme provides a crucial safety net during periods of profound loss .

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr. Modu Ishaku expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General for the gesture and assured that the funds would be managed judiciously .

The latest disbursement follows a similar exercise in January 2026, when the Command paid approximately ₦18.38 million to nine families of fallen officers .

The Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance Scheme operates nationwide, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and their dependents, even after service ends in tragedy .
