Foundation Petitions Police Over Attempted Murder in Abia, Seeks Case Transfer to CID

A human rights organization, Spring Aid Foundation, has petitioned the Abia State Commissioner of Police seeking the transfer of a case involving conspiracy and attempted murder to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation.

In a petition dated February 2, 2026, the foundation’s South East Coordinator, Johnson Ikechukwu, detailed a violent attack on Mr. Okezie O. Chukwudi and his family in Amizi Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area.

According to the petition, on January 27, 2026, the victim’s minor son was chased from their compound by Mathew Ndubueze. When the father stepped out to inquire, he was attacked by armed suspects including Mathew Ndubueze, Ndubueze Okezie, and Chetam Ndubueze, who gained access through a neighboring compound.

During the assault, Mrs. Ijeoma Okezie sustained a severe machete cut on her left hand while defending herself from being beheaded. The petitioner also suffered a deep machete wound to his head.

Arrests Made, One Suspect at Large

In an update, the foundation confirmed that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. However, one suspect identified as Donatus Okezie remains at large. The suspects were among those named in the original petition filed January 28 at the Area Command Headquarters, Umuahia.

The foundation expressed concern that despite the gravity of the offense, the suspects moved freely before the arrests, undermining public confidence in law enforcement. They are urging the Commissioner to order the case transferred to the State CID for thorough investigation and ensure the protection of victims living in fear.
