The Abia State Government has firmly dismissed circulating rumours claiming that Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speculation emerged after a picture of Governor Otti with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah resurfaced online, just days before Governor Mbah’s own defection to the APC. Critics alleged the visit was a strategic move by Otti to facilitate his switch to the ruling national party.
However, in a statement on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, labelled the report as a “fabrication by political propagandists.”
“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu stated.
He reiterated that the Governor’s focus remains “unshaken,” centred on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and delivering democracy’s dividends to the state’s citizens.
The Commissioner advised the public to disregard the report entirely, treating it as “another cheap propaganda.”
