ABUJA – Security operatives have arrested a retired army officer, Siadu Lawal, on the Abuja-Kaduna highway while allegedly transporting weapons destined for terrorist groups in Zamfara State.
The suspect was intercepted by a joint security task force while enroute to deliver the arms shipment, raising serious concerns about the involvement of former security personnel in fueling terrorism.
According to security sources, Lawal, who recently retired from military service, was allegedly using his knowledge of security operations and networks to facilitate arms supplies to terrorist elements in the Northwest region.
The arrest has sparked outrage among security analysts and the public, with many expressing concerns about possible collusion between some security personnel and terrorist groups.
A security official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and that the recovered weapons have been taken into custody as evidence.
The Defense Headquarters has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but security sources indicate that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover possible accomplices and the extent of the alleged arms supply network.
