Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to remain united and work collectively toward securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 .
Kalu made the appeal while appraising the conduct of the party’s ward congresses ahead of the Local Government Congresses in Umuahia, emphasizing that unity remains the key to electoral victory .
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Deputy Speaker charged all party faithful to cooperate with the Congress Committee headed by former Plateau State Speaker, Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar .
“Cooperate with committee members. There’s nothing like peace. Let’s stay united and achieve our goal. The President is watching and he is happy with what we are doing,” Kalu said .
The call for unity aligns with the party’s recent harmonization efforts. Kalu had earlier explained that the decision for harmonized congresses followed consultations within the party’s highest organs, including the national caucus and the National Executive Committee, aimed at easing internal tensions .
He emphasized that President Tinubu, as a committed democrat, insisted that party structures must reflect collective ownership rather than individual control. “The president made it clear that decisions reached by the caucus and NEC were binding and could not be altered by any individual or group,” Kalu stated .
The Deputy Speaker has consistently preached zero tolerance for factionalism, warning that “anybody maintaining a faction is not a member of our party” .
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, commended the Deputy Speaker and stakeholders for their outstanding efforts in ensuring a successful exercise. “A very solid foundation has been laid. When you get the foundation right, it’s just to build on it,” Go’ar noted .
The Abia APC had earlier endorsed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for 2027 during a stakeholders’ meeting at Kalu’s country home in Bende, with the party also affirming Kalu as its recognized leader in the state .
