Tinubu Meets Gov Bala Mohammed Behind Closed Doors, Security Tops Agenda

President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with discussions focusing on the worsening security situation in the state .

The meeting comes just hours after Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), fueling speculation about possible political realignments .

However, addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, Mohammed firmly dismissed rumors of an impending defection, declaring his commitment to the opposition party.

“I am a PDP man. I am not here for politics or defection. I am here for governance and partnership,” Mohammed stated emphatically .

The governor explained that his visit was to brief the President on the deteriorating security situation in Alkaleri Local Government Area, where bandits have exploited ungoverned forest spaces around the Daji Dam corridor to launch attacks on communities .

Mohammed revealed that he personally visited affected communities alongside security heads, assessed the crisis, and presented a detailed report seeking urgent federal intervention .

“He has responded positively. He has already given directives and assured us of federal support,” the governor said, expressing satisfaction with the outcome .

The governor also proposed a joint security summit involving Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe states to strengthen inter-state collaboration against banditry and criminal networks operating across shared forest belts .

On the renewed debate over state police, Mohammed reiterated his long-standing support for the initiative, noting that while expensive, it would reduce the burden on federal forces and make governors more accountable .
