Labour Party Faction Recognizes Alex Otti as National Leader, Usman as Chairman

A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has consolidated its new leadership structure, officially recognizing Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, as its National Leader.

This development follows the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Wednesday, as detailed in a communiqué signed by National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.

In a major shift, the faction also formally accepted the political departure of its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, wishing him success in his new affiliation with the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Central to the resolutions is the affirmation of Mrs. Nenadi Usman, a former Minister of Finance, as the faction’s National Chairman. This decision is anchored on the Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, which ruled that the tenure of the previously recognized chairman, Julius Abure, had expired.

The communiqué urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accord official recognition to Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary, in line with the court’s pronouncement.

The party faction reiterated its commitment to proceeding with congresses and a National Convention in strict compliance with its constitution, urging members at all levels to participate actively.
