Ilorin, Kwara State — The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced digital birth and death registration in Kwara State as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s civil registration and vital statistics system.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the initiative is designed to improve the accuracy, accessibility and efficiency of birth and death registration through the use of digital technology. The commission said the programme will enhance national data collection for planning, healthcare, education and other government services.
According to the NPC, the digital registration system will make it easier for residents to register births and deaths while ensuring secure storage and management of vital records. The commission also urged parents, guardians and community leaders to embrace the initiative.
“The digital registration exercise is aimed at improving the efficiency of birth and death registration while providing reliable data for national planning and development,” the NPC stated.
The commission explained that accurate civil registration is essential for identity management, access to social services and evidence-based policymaking. It added that awareness campaigns would be intensified to encourage greater public participation across the state.
The NPC is expected to expand the digital registration programme to more communities in Kwara as part of its nationwide drive to modernise civil registration services.
