Arrested 77,859 Suspects in Five Years – Marwa

Abuja, Nigeria — Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), has disclosed that the agency seized 14.8 million kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 77,859 suspects over the past five years as part of its intensified anti-drug campaign.

CDA News Nigeria reports that Marwa made the disclosure while highlighting the agency’s achievements in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across Nigeria. He said the operations have led to significant drug seizures, arrests, prosecutions and convictions, strengthening the country’s fight against narcotics.

According to the NDLEA chairman, the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through intelligence-led operations, enhanced collaboration with local and international partners, and sustained public awareness campaigns.

“Over the last five years, the NDLEA has seized 14.8 million kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 77,859 suspects as part of our determined effort to rid Nigeria of the menace of drug trafficking and abuse,” Marwa said.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the agency by providing credible intelligence, stressing that the fight against illicit drugs requires the collective efforts of government, communities and other stakeholders.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement operations while expanding drug prevention, rehabilitation and public education programmes nationwide.
