AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – Anambra State security forces have raided a hotel in Awka South Local Government Area, arresting suspected prostitutes and their patrons before demolishing the facility in line with state homeland security laws.
The operation, conducted on Saturday at Airtight Guest House and Bar, Y-Junction, Okpuno, led to the arrest of several individuals allegedly involved in commercial sex work at the facility. Following the raid, the state government demolished the hotel on Sunday.
The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Homeland Security, has maintained a tough stance against properties used for criminal activities, including human trafficking and prostitution. The state’s homeland security laws empower authorities to seal and demolish structures used for illegal purposes.
A statement from the ministry described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal hideouts and restore moral order. The suspects were paraded before being handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
The government warned property owners against leasing their facilities for illegal activities, stating that such properties would be forfeited and demolished without compromise.
