Abuja, Nigeria — The Senate has expressed concern over the persistent failure of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to implement its resolutions, warning that defaulting agencies could face budgetary sanctions.
CDA News Nigeria reports that lawmakers voiced their dissatisfaction during plenary, describing the non-implementation of Senate resolutions as a setback to legislative oversight and good governance.
According to the Senate, resolutions passed by the National Assembly are aimed at improving public service delivery, accountability and policy implementation. The lawmakers stressed that agencies that repeatedly disregard legislative directives risk facing consequences during the consideration of their budget proposals.
“The continued refusal by some MDAs to implement Senate resolutions is unacceptable. Agencies that fail to comply may face budgetary sanctions,” the Senate warned.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the lawmakers urged all MDAs to respect the oversight responsibilities of the National Assembly and promptly implement resolutions intended to improve governance and public administration.
Political analysts say the warning reflects growing efforts by the Senate to strengthen accountability within government institutions and ensure that public agencies comply with legislative directives.
The Senate is expected to monitor the level of compliance by MDAs and may take further legislative action if the trend persists.
