Blood Bath as Terrorists Launch Multiple Attacks on Borno, Yobe Communities

MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA — A wave of coordinated terrorist attacks has rocked communities in Borno and Yobe States, resulting in multiple casualties, mass abductions, and the temporary overrunning of a military base, as security forces battle to contain the insurgents.

In the most devastating assault, suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Ngoshe town in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday night, overwhelming the 82 Division Task Force Battalion before storming the community and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.

Five days after the attack, local sources say the terrorists remain in control of Ngoshe, having beheaded soldiers, killed the chief imam, and abducted over 300 residents, mostly women and children.

A surviving soldier recounted the horror, describing how he watched colleagues “slaughtered like chickens” after being captured.

The terrorist group, Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, has claimed responsibility and released a video vowing to observe Eid-el-Fitr prayers in the captured town, which they have renamed a “caliphate”.

In a separate Sunday night attack, terrorists targeted a military base in Kukawa town, Borno State. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that troops of Joint Task Force North East ‘Operation HADIN KAI’ repelled the assault, killing many insurgents, though some security personnel also paid the supreme price.

Items recovered included PKT rounds, an AK-47 rifle, and mortar bombs.

Simultaneously, attackers invaded Dalwa village, a resettled community in Konduga LGA, setting ablaze approximately 75% of housing estates and causing scores of civilian casualties.

In Yobe State, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized at least 10 terrorists attempting to overrun the 120 Battalion in Goniri, Gujba LGA, through precision airstrikes.

The federal government has responded by deploying additional tactical assets and intelligence reinforcements to affected areas, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima assuring that perpetrators “would face the full wrath of the law.

However, Senator Ali Ndume has called on President Tinubu to translate security emergency declarations into sustained military operations against terrorist strongholds.
