KATSINA – The Katsina State Government has identified a defiant bandit leader, Mani Doro, as responsible for recent attacks in communities across Malumfashi Local Government Area, stating that he refused to embrace the ongoing peace negotiations between repentant bandits and affected communities.
Director-General of Media to Governor Dikko Radda, Maiwada Damallam, explained that while the state had enjoyed relative peace due to a blend of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, Doro’s gang remained recalcitrant.
“Doro is among the few defiant criminal elements who refused to embrace peace negotiations initiated by local communities… Security officials are hot on his trail,” Damallam stated.
He reassured residents that the resurgence of attacks does not signify a collapse of the peace process, as most armed groups have adopted dialogue, leading to restored normalcy in many parts of the state.
Meanwhile, civil society groups have blamed the fragility of peace agreements on poor implementation by state governments, urging stronger ownership and fulfillment of community demands such as schools, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Nationwide, the military continues operations against terrorists, with the Chief of Army Staff seeking enhanced collaboration with traditional rulers for intelligence-driven campaigns.
