Terror Attacks: Tinubu Directs Service Chiefs to Relocate to Borno

ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the nation’s service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State capital, to take charge of the security situation following deadly suicide bombings that killed at least 23 people and injured over 100 others on Monday evening.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the coordinated attacks, believed to have been carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, targeted crowded locations including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) gate, the Monday Market roundabout, and the Post Office area around 7:05 p.m. as Muslims were breaking their fast.

Reacting to the tragic incidents shortly before embarking on his historic state visit to the United Kingdom, President Tinubu described the attacks as “profoundly upsetting” and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” the President stated.

Tinubu commended the courage of troops who repelled coordinated attacks on military positions and announced that additional equipment and operational support had already been approved during a recent security meeting.

“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured. There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared

CDA News report that the Nigerian Army has warned that preliminary intelligence suggests multiple suicide bombers may have been deployed into Maiduguri, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid crowded areas where possible.

Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed that troops, police Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, and other security agencies responded swiftly to secure the affected locations and evacuate casualties.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Borno State Emergency Management Agency, have evacuated victims to various hospitals for urgent medical attention.

The attacks mark the first major bombings in Maiduguri since 2021 and have raised concerns about a resurgence of insurgent activities in the Northeast.
