IBADAN – The Oyo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a handwritten threat note, written in Yoruba and English, allegedly left by suspected bandits in the Ikoyi-Ile community of Orire Local Government Area.
The note, reportedly discovered in front of a residential building, warned of a planned attack on the community.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the Command received credible intelligence about the note. He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, immediately activated the Command’s intelligence, tactical, and operational units in response.
“Armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance, and strategic area domination have been significantly reinforced,” DSP Olayinka said, noting that police personnel are now on 24-hour high alert in the affected area.
He added that the State Intelligence Department and tactical teams have begun “intensive debriefing” of individuals linked to the note’s discovery and have deployed operational teams strategically within Ikoyi-Ile and its environs to prevent any breach of security.
The police spokesperson assured residents that “every lead is being pursued” to uncover the origin and authenticity of the threat, vowing that anyone found responsible would be “decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.”
The Command urged the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and report any suspicious movements promptly, while assuring that robust security measures are fully activated to safeguard lives and property.
This development comes amid heightened security concerns in several parts of the state, with police recently recovering the remains of murdered forest guards in another area.
