Major Fire Ravages Ogun Free Trade Zone, Spreads to Nearby Homes

OGUN STATE – A massive fire has gutted sections of the Ogun Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, destroying a factory and spreading to adjacent residential buildings.

The inferno reportedly began around midnight and raged into the early hours of Sunday morning before emergency services managed to contain it.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers responded swiftly to a distress call and have been on-site to coordinate security and crowd control as firefighters work to fully extinguish the flames.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development via his social media handle, noting that the Divisional Police Officer in Igbesa is leading the security response.

“The DPO Igbesa is coordinating, while officers are on ground to maintain order as firefighters work to put out the fire. Residents are advised to stay calm and keep away from the affected area,” Babaseyi stated.

While the exact cause of the fire and a comprehensive assessment of the damage are yet to be determined, the incident has caused significant disruption in the industrial zone and raised concerns about safety protocols in mixed-use industrial-residential areas.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and allow emergency responders unfettered access to complete their operations. Further updates on the cause and full extent of the damage are expected from the state fire service and zone management.
