Plateau Fulani Christians Deny Links to Miyetti Allah, MACBAN

JOS, NIGERIA — A group of Fulani youths who converted from Islam to Christianity has publicly distanced itself from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and other Fulani socio-cultural organizations, urging bandits and terrorists to repent and allow peace to reign in Plateau State .

The group, under the auspices of “Fulani for Christ,” made the appeal in a statement on Saturday, expressing dismay that their kinsmen are frequently fingered in violent attacks across the state, leading to negative ethnic profiling of the entire Fulani community .

“We Fulani For Christ, are hereby calling on our brothers who have turned themselves into bandits, terrorists, and killers to desist from such acts as it is giving all of us a negative ethnic profiling,” said Evangelist Nuhu Dauda, Coordinator of the group .

Dauda noted that the decision to speak out was driven by a commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence, despite the risks involved. He revealed that many members of the group have been disowned by their families and some have bounties placed on their heads by their own relatives as a result of their Christian faith .

“We can’t even worship in the open for fear of being attacked, but that doesn’t mean we are no more Fulani people. Many of us were born and raised in Plateau State, and we have no other place to call our own. So what is the essence of violence against our own brothers and sisters? We must learn to live in peace with one another,” Dauda pleaded .

The group’s statement comes amid heightened tensions in Plateau State following a series of deadly attacks that have claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks . It also follows moves by the United States Congress to consider sanctions against MACBAN and other groups over alleged involvement in attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

MACBAN has consistently denied links to such attacks, with its National President, Baba Othman Ngenzarma, insisting the association is inclusive of all ethnicities and religions and has never sponsored any violence.

The Fulani for Christ group, however, made it clear they operate independently of these organizations and are committed to preaching peace and reconciliation in their communities .
