OSOGBO, NIGERIA — The campaign organisation of former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has confirmed the withdrawal of the legal action challenging the disqualification of several governorship aspirants by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primary election in the state .
In a statement released in Osogbo on Thursday and signed by its Director General, Ajibola Famurewa, the organisation explained that the case was discontinued after interventions from prominent leaders of the ruling party, including President Bola Tinubu and elder statesman Chief Bisi Akande.
The suit, marked FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 – Senator Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR, was filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo following the disqualification of seven out of eight aspirants by the party’s screening panel ahead of the APC governorship primary in Osun State.
According to the campaign organisation, “the legal action was instituted to test the legality of the panel’s decision,” which it alleged violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The originating summons, dated December 9, 2025, had asked the Federal High Court to determine if the APC could lawfully disqualify Omisore despite his alleged fulfilment of constitutional requirements to contest in the governorship primary.
Among the reliefs sought was a declaration that the party could not validly exclude him from participating in the primary election having satisfied the provisions of Sections 177 and 182 of the Constitution.
The suit also sought an order nullifying the alleged disqualification and compelling the APC to recognise Omisore as an aspirant in its governorship primary.
The case became widely known after details from the court’s cause list for March 2 circulated on social media, where the matter appeared as the eleventh case scheduled for hearing before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.
However, Famurewa stated that the case was later withdrawn after consultations and appeals from senior party leaders. “Upon the intervention of the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and other well-meaning leaders, Senator Omisore decided to honour the request to follow the party’s decision,” the statement read.
The campaign organisation urged members of the APC and the public to disregard reports suggesting that the case was still pending, stressing the importance of unity within the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15 in Osun State.
