Abia Central Groups Rally Behind Emeka Atuma Ahead of 2027 Senate Race

ABIA CENTRAL, NIGERIA — Political activities are intensifying in Abia Central Senatorial Zone as multiple support groups and stakeholders have adopted Emeka Atuma as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Senate race.

The growing endorsement reflects increasing momentum for the former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2007. Across the zone, Atuma’s name is said to resonate strongly among grassroots supporters, party loyalists, and community leaders.

Several pro-groups, socio-cultural organisations, and individuals across political lines have reportedly thrown their weight behind him, citing his accessibility, philanthropy, and long-standing commitment to the people. Supporters also point to his role as a key financier and pillar of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

At a recent gathering held on April 15, 2026, a coalition of youth groups, women organisations, and political stakeholders from across the 62 wards of Abia Central convened to strategise on mobilisation efforts. The meeting drew participation from various groups including Grace Movement, Abia United Forum, Wazobia Group, and Central Voice.

Speaking at the event, former lawmaker Chidi Nwosu urged supporters to intensify grassroots engagement, expressing confidence that victory is achievable. Other party leaders also reiterated their commitment to ensuring a united front ahead of the elections.

Observers note that the early mobilisation signals a competitive race for the Abia Central Senate seat, with Atuma emerging as a strong contender as political alignments begin to take shape.
