Political Earthquake as Mascot Uzoh Kalu Declares Governorship Bid

UMUAHIA – Abia State’s political landscape is set for a major shake-up following the declaration of former Chief of Staff, Mascot Uzoh Kalu, to run for the governorship seat in the 2027 election.

Kalu, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level, made his ambitions public, signaling a fierce battle ahead for the Government House in Umuahia.

The declaration is being termed a “political earthquake” by analysts, given Kalu’s deep political roots and influence in the state. He served as Chief of Staff under former Governor Theodore Orji and is the younger brother of former Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

His entry into the race is expected to galvanize the APC base in Abia, a state currently led by the Labour Party. The move sets the stage for a highly competitive election as parties jostle for control.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, all eyes will be on Abia State to see how this declaration alters the political calculations.
