IKWUANO, ABIA STATE – A major political realignment has shaken Ikwuano Local Government Area as former Legislative Leader, Hon. Obinna Agaodi, and 13 former councillors have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The high-profile defection, which took place on Wednesday, is linked to growing dissatisfaction with internal party structures and the need for a more progressive political platform at the grassroots level. Hon. Agaodi, a key figure in Ikwuano politics, led the councillors in what observers describe as a strategic and coordinated move.
The defectors were formally received by the ADC leadership in Ikwuano LGA, led by Party Chairman, Mr. Chibuike Emmanuel, and members of the party’s executive.
Speaking at the reception, Agaodi cited the ADC’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development as reasons for their decision. He expressed confidence that the party would provide a better platform to serve the people of Ikwuano.
With 13 councillors moving in one bloc, the development signals a potential shift in grassroots power dynamics and may trigger further defections within the PDP in the area.
The PDP is yet to respond to the defection.
