NVosi,ABIA STATE – The Federal Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have called on the Abia State Government to urgently remove bureaucratic bottlenecks delaying the $263.8 million Abia State Integrated Infrastructural Development (ABSIID) project.
During a visit to Umuahia, a joint delegation led by Dr. Oyebola Akande of the Ministry of Finance disclosed that two years of the five-year implementation timeline have already been lost due to delays.
The ABSIID project, launched in July 2025, is designed to rehabilitate over 248 kilometers of roads, improve waste management systems, and tackle erosion challenges across Abia State. Key components include 126 kilometers of roads in Aba and 35.57 kilometers in Umuahia.
The delegation urged Governor Alex Otti to expedite action on the project, warning that further delays could jeopardize the funding and the intended developmental impact.
Governor Otti reportedly assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to fast-tracking the project.
