Abia Critic Vows Unrelenting Scrutiny Amid Online Clash With Govt Official

A prominent Abia transparency advocate, Eke O Ako, has publicly vowed to continue demanding accountability over state finances despite alleged attempts to censor his critiques online.

The declaration came in an open letter addressed to Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, a government official, whom he accused of deleting his comments, issuing warnings, and name-calling in response to persistent questions about the state’s financial approvals.

The activist highlighted that over ₦470 billion had been approved through supplementary and virement bills in Abia between 2023 and 2025, with what he called “no clear project details or visible execution on ground.” He insisted that his role is a “civic duty,” not motivated by political affiliation, and cited his consistent criticism of both past and present administrations.

Eke, who is based in Scotland, stated that the work costs him “over ₦200k monthly” but remains a “sacrifice to Abia.” He challenged the notion that physical presence in the state is required to demand accountability.

When contacted, government sources maintained that all approvals follow due process and are tied to ongoing development projects across the state.

The exchange underscores growing tension between civic watchdogs and state officials over transparency and the public’s right to question spending.
