Gunmen Attack PHC, Kidnap Health Workers in Ondo

AKURE, ONDO STATE – Gunmen have attacked a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ondo State, abducting several health workers in a brazen raid that has heightened concerns over the safety of healthcare personnel.

The incident occurred on Friday night at a PHC in the Ose Local Government Area of the state. According to sources, the assailants stormed the facility, shooting sporadically before whisking away an unspecified number of health workers to an unknown destination.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that a manhunt has been launched for the abductors. Police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, assured that efforts are underway to rescue the victims unharmed and apprehend the perpetrators.

“We are on the trail of the kidnappers. Our men are working with local vigilantes to ensure the safe return of the victims,” she said.

The state government condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on the healthcare system. Authorities have called for calm while assuring residents that security agencies are doing everything possible to secure the release of the abducted workers.

The incident adds to a growing list of attacks on health facilities in the region, with stakeholders calling for improved security around critical infrastructure.
