PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE – Officers of the Rumeprikon Police Division have taken to the streets, sweeping and cleaning major roads within their jurisdiction as part of activities marking Police Week.
The exercise, which covered Wimpy Junction, Rumola, Rumokuta, and other areas, saw police personnel armed with brooms and cleaning tools, tidying up the environment alongside their regular security duties.
Sources confirmed that the initiative is part of the annual Police Week celebration, which includes community engagement, public sanitation, and outreach programmes aimed at fostering better relations between the force and citizens.
Residents watched with surprise as uniformed officers swept gutters, cleared debris, and bagged refuse along the busy streets. Some praised the gesture, describing it as a positive step toward improving police-community ties.
“This is a welcome development. It shows the police are not just about enforcement but also about service,” a resident told CDA News Nigeria.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the exercise, but sources indicate that similar sanitation efforts are being carried out in other divisions across the state as part of the week-long celebration.
Police Week is observed annually to honour officers and promote public trust in the force.
