The Anambra State Government on Friday, June 5, 2026, arraigned eight pastors before the Homeland Security Special Court in Awka over alleged involvement in staging fake miracles, commonly known as “arrangee” miracles. African Examiner.
The pastors were charged for offences including wielding fake supernatural powers and using a place of worship for the commission of crime, contrary to Sections 18(3) and 19(1) of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025, as well as obtaining by false pretence under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act.
The eight individuals arraigned are Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.
Proof of evidence filed alongside the charges included video-recorded confessions from the pastors, with flash drives attached, indicating that all eight confessed to the alleged crimes. Some were charged alongside agents reportedly used to recruit individuals paid to pretend they had been healed or delivered.
The prosecution is being led by State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN). The matter was adjourned to June 15, 2026, for hearing and bail motions.
Governor Soludo maintained that the government’s actions are aimed at protecting residents and restoring public confidence in legitimate religious institutions, warning that anyone found violating the state’s security laws would face prosecution.
