Why I Disagreed That Tinubu Won APC Primary Election in 2022 – Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and 2027 presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has publicly revealed his long-held skepticism regarding President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election held in 2022.

Amaechi, who was a leading contender for the party’s ticket, made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television on Friday. He explained that his disagreement was not about the primary process itself, but about the ideological direction a Tinubu presidency would represent.

“On the first day, they said President Tinubu had won the APC primary; I told him I didn’t agree,” Amaechi stated.

He rooted his objection in the need for national balance, arguing that a successful government must protect all religious interests. “There is a balance in every society, and that balance is that you must protect all religious interests in the society,” he said. “I don’t see the current administration protecting the interests of all religions in the country. You must allow all regions and tribes to know that they belong to this country”.

Amaechi’s comments directly reference the Tinubu administration’s “same-faith” ticket, with both the President and Vice President being Muslims. In the interview, Amaechi also alleged that his active participation in the primary ultimately led to him being “chased out” of the APC. Now a presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Amaechi is positioning himself as a candidate for national unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
