APC Shifts Presidential, Governorship Primaries to May 23, 21

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the postponement of its presidential and governorship primary elections, shifting key dates in the party’s timetable for the 2027 general elections .

The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, disclosed the revised schedule after the 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday . The presidential primary, earlier slated for May 15 and 16, will now hold on May 23, 2026, while the governorship primaries have been moved to May 21, 2026 .

Other primary elections remain largely unchanged: House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 15, Senate primaries on May 18, and State House of Assembly primaries on May 20 .

The party noted that the adjustments were made to align with the Electoral Act 2026, the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and the revised timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .

Meseko further clarified that the party has adopted both direct and consensus options for selecting candidates, in line with the Electoral Act. Aspirants are free to choose their preferred method, but where consensus fails, the process will automatically revert to direct primaries .

The sale of nomination forms will commence on Saturday, April 25, and end on May 2, 2026, with the submission deadline set for May 4 .

INEC has fixed the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, January 16, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, February 6, 2027 .
